Katherine L. O’Donnell, Age 73, passed away on Monday, February 17th, 2025 in the home she built with her Husband, Bob, 30 years ago.
Kathy was born in Winchester, Massachusetts on April 13th, 1951 to Ernest and Elizabeth Arsenault. The family moved to Gates Mills, Ohio where she graduated from Mayfield High School in 1969. She graduated from Mount St. Joseph College in Cincinnati, Ohio with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She worked at the Orthodox Jewish Home in Cincinnati as a nursing supervisor where she met her husband to be, Bob, who was the Administrator.
Kathy and Bob were married in Cincinnati on January 28th, 1984. In 1986, Kathy and Bob moved to Tuscarawas County to join the family business, Park Village Health Care Center. Kathy briefly worked at Valley Manor before joining Park Village as a charge nurse, supervisor and owner. Over her 30-year career at Park Village she at some point held every nursing position, eventually becoming the Vice President of Nursing over both the Dover and New Philadelphia campuses. She held this position until her retirement in 2019.
Kathy had very high care giving standards for the staff she worked with and mentored. Many stories are still told in the halls of Park Village about her attention to detail and the excellence she expected day in and day out. But most importantly, she promoted a caring, loving environment for the residents she took great pride in serving.
In addition to her professional service to the community, Kathy and Bob established The O’Donnell Family Foundation in 2000. The Foundation provides financial assistance to schools, churches, and charities in Tuscarawas County.
Kathy was an avid reader of a wide variety of literature from her extensive library that she collected over the years. She also passed this love of reading to her son, Jon. She also enjoyed flower gardening and watching her bluebirds nest and fledge from the bluebird boxes around her home.
Her other great love was travelling. Kathy and Bob travelled to all 50 states and tens of national parks. She also travelled to many European countries to visit with the numerous Rotary exchange students that she and Bob sponsored over the years. In retirement, she enjoyed her winter home in Rio Verde, Arizona and the special friends she made there.
Kathy is survived by her husband Bob, her loving son Jon and his girlfriend Ashley Naylor. She is also survived by her brothers: Steve Arsenault, John (Vicki) Arsenault, and Pete (Penny) Arsenault. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Elizabeth Arsenault, and her sister Susan Walker.
The O’Donnell family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Casey Perkowski and special nurse friends Marci Shutt and Sue Myers for their exceptional care during Kathy’s final days.
