Kathleen R. “Kay” Scherer, 88, of Dover died Saturday, April 23, 2005 at Union Hospital.
Kay�(TM)s first job following high school was at Fred Potschner�(TM)s Ford in Dover. Later in life she opened, along with her husband, the Scherer�(TM)s Sweet Shoppe in New Philadelphia and finally she was a teachers aid in the Dover school system for 15 years.
Born December 23, 1916 in Dover she was a daughter of the late Russell and Edna Hisrich Keppler.
Kay was a member of St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ in Dover where she sang in the Senior Choir and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a founding member of the Literary Club of Dover and was a member of Eastern Star and the Strasburg Dramatic Club. She enjoyed playing Bridge and volunteered as a reading tutor at Buckeye Career Center. Her love of music could be felt throughout the county as she and her family sang at many different events over the years.
Kay is survived by her husband Paul J. Scherer with whom she would have celebrated 64 years of marriage on June 1, 2005.
She is also survived by a daughter, Margaret Ann Brunner and her husband Don Maurer of Dover; son, Skip (Kitty) Scherer of North Canton; sister, Anna Mae Keppler of Dover; five grandchildren, Matt (Janice) Brunner of Athens, Marc (Libby) Brunner of Canal Winchester, Katiann Scherer of North Canton, Katrina Scherer of North Canton and Nathan Putzier of Washington DC; one great grandson, Kyler Brunner of Athens.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Bob Scherer and a sister, Margaret Hanni.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at 1:00 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover with Rev. Steve Daniels and Pastor Dan Schaefer officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park. Friends can call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8 pm.
