Kathy Ann DeVore, 52, of Midvale, died Monday, March 12, 2007, in Mercy Medical Center Canton, following a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born November 2, 1954, in Dover, she was a daughter of Maxine McAndrews DeVore Whitman and Robert Whitman of Midvale, and the late Robert DeVore. Kathy was a 1973 graduate of Indian Valley North High School and Canton City L.P.N. School of Nursing. She was a Licensed Practical nurse who was employed at New Dawn Retirement Community the past ten years. Kathy greatly enjoyed her work and time spent with patients and staff. Her family was very grateful that she received the same kind of loving care that she gave from the nurses on the eighth floor of Mercy Medical Center during her final days.
In her time away from nursing, Kathy liked to read, crochet and plant flowers, but she especially liked cooking " the larger the group to prepare for, the better. Holidays were a favorite time, as were vacations to Myrtle Beach where she could take in the ocean. Another of Kathy(TM)s favorite pastimes was following the Atlanta Braves and baseball in general. She was an adoring aunt to her many nieces and nephews, who adored her in return.
In addition to her mother and father, Kathy is survived by four sisters, Margie (husband, Mike) Hamilton of Winston-Salem, NC, Patty (husband, Nathan) Shaw of Monroe, MI, Wanda (husband, Dan) Albright of Uhrichsville, and Chris (husband, Richard) Carpenter of Bowerston; six brothers, Butch (wife, Debbie) Sligar of Kingsland, GA, Bobby (wife, Carol) DeVore of Midvale, Bobby Whitman of Dennison, Dorn (wife, Carol) Fisher of New Philadelphia, Richard Bazzoli of Fresno, Jeff (wife, Shelly) Whitman of Uhrichsville, and Ricky (wife, Sherri) Whitman of New Philadelphia; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; and her beloved dog, Sammy.
Besides her father, an infant brother, James DeVore; her grandmother, to whom she was very close, Margaret Marburger; and her dog, Giselle, preceded Kathy in death.
Her life will be celebrated in a service Saturday, March 17, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, with Elder Glenn R. Carlisle officiating. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home 12:30 " 1:30 p.m. Immediately following the service, there will be a reception in the TolandHerzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
