Kenneth E. "Ken" Loveday, age 84, of Dover, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, in Union Hospital, Dover, following a period of declining health.
Born Aug. 24, 1927, in Warwick Twp., Tuscarawas Co., Ken was a son of the late Clifford and Annabelle Metzger Loveday. He attended Tuscarawas-Warwick High School until such time as he was able to enter the service of his country in the U.S. Army near the end of the Second World War. He served honorably and was a proud veteran.
Following his discharge, Ken worked for several local concerns, including the Evans Pipe Co., Universal Sewer Pipe (in research and development), and Shenango (in quality control). Later, he was co-owner, along with his brother, of NAPA Auto Parts in Dover, and in his retirement, always wanting to stay busy, he was employed part-time by United Sales, also of Dover.
Ken loved automobiles, owning some fourteen classic cars over the years, his favorites being Ford Thunderbirds.
Survivors include a son, Gary (Donna) Loveday of Newark; a step-son, Lee (Linda) Miller of Dover; four grandchildren, Kevin (Lori), Kenneth (Shannon) and Kellie Miller, and Malinda Hockenberry; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Loveday of Ocala, Florida, and Richard (Anna Mae) Loveday of Dennison; and a nephew, Jesse (Keri) Loveday.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his wife of forty-nine years, Thelma P. Loveday, in 1999; and by a sister-in-law, Mildred Loveday.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, on Thursday (today), Oct. 6, 6 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 7, at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Andy McClung of Community Baptist Church in Dover officiating. Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia, where military rites will be conducted by the Dover post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
