Kenneth L. Headlee, 90, of Strasburg died Thursday, March 22, 2007 in Aultman Hospital at Canton.
Born September 22, 1916 in Garards Fort, Pennsylvania he was a son of the late Mark and Ethel Rose Headlee. Ken was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary E. Headlee who died on March 15, 2002; six brothers, Earle, Furman, Glen, Ray, Russell and Stanley Headlee and one sister, Dorothy Vernon.
Ken attended Garards Fort Elementary and graduated in 1935 from Mapletown High School. Following graduation, he worked at the Russell Headlee Sawmill and Houze Glass in Point Marion, Pa. He then served in the Army Air Corps. as an engineer gunner on a B-24 having flown seven missions over Germany. In 1946 he started Headlee Lumber Yard at Point Marion and then a second, Wayne Lumber, with his brother, Shirl in Waynesburg, Pa. Ken built and ran the Waynesburg Roller Rink and a Dairy Delite in Dry Tavern, Pa and the Jefferson Speedway in Jefferson, Pa. After nearly 20 years he moved to Ligonier, Pa and worked as a real estate agent. Then in 1973 he moved to Strasburg to spend time with his grandchildren. He and Mary Lib loved to travel and they spent many winters in Florida. Ken belonged to the Strasburg Lions and Masonic Lodge and he enjoyed golfing, having belonged to several leagues over the years. He was affiliated with the Strasburg United Methodist Church.
Ken will be sadly missed by two daughters, Karen (Ron) Wallick of Dover and Janis Headlee of Wappinger Falls, New York; three grandchildren, Kerby (Mary) Wallick of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Doug (Carmen) Stasko of Fishkill, New York and Meridy (Scott) Sieloff of Canton; five great grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah and Andrew Wallick, Arianna and Mason Sieloff; brother, Shirl (Peg) Headlee of Waynesburg, Pa; two sisters, Gladys Brewer of Headlee Heights, Pa and Ida Wade of Tarpon Springs, Florida.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 26, 2007 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Strasburg with Pastor Fred Grosse officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. Friends can call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 pm.
