Laird D. Harstine, 87, of Dover and formerly of Baltic, died Monday, April 4, 2016 in the Community Hospice House.
Born September 24, 1928 in New Philadelphia he was a son of the late Frank and Mary Cairns Harstine. Laird was also preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Harstine on April 21, 1969; his second wife, Esther Harstine on December 3, 2015; and five brothers, Forrest, Carl, Emmet, John and his twin, Leonard Harstine.
Laird retired in 1988 from the Timken Co. in New Philadelphia after 28 years of service. He also had a second job that was his passion, farming his land and taking care of his livestock. He attended Strasburg United Methodist Church and was a member of the Baltic Zion United Church of Christ, Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau, West Lafayette Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, playing the piano and attending his grandchildren's sporting and school events.
Laird will be sadly missed by his children, Sherry Harstine of Canton, Tom (Sandy) Harstine and Bill (Jan) Harstine both of Strasburg, Greg (Michelle) Harstine of New Philadelphia; sister, Marjorie Harstine of New Philadelphia; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 8 at 11:00 am in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Jason Humble officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Thursday from 4-7 pm.
