Larry Dean Okey of Dover, Ohio passed away on May 7, 2021. He was born on March 1, 1954 in Woodsfield, Ohio to the late Earl and Dessie Okey. Larry graduated from Woodsfield High School in the Class of 1972 and went on to earn an associate’s degree from Belmont Technical College. Larry then began a long, successful sales career with Phillip Morris, USA. As a result of his profession, he had genuinely never met a stranger and enjoyed striking up a conversation with anyone.
After being introduced by mutual friends, Larry married his wife, Carolyn, on September 8, 1979. He is survived by Carolyn, and their daughters, Koryn Okey and Jill (Todd) Van Dyke, his grandson, Case, and step-granddaughter, Cameron. Additionally, he is survived by sisters Carol (Rich) Kuhn and Leona Hoskinson, brother Gerald (Arlene) Okey, and his cousin Jack (Karen) Okey, along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother David Okey and sisters Sally (David) Patti and Myrna (Bob) Minder.
Larry held many titles in his life: father, husband, brother, and friend, but his most cherished was grandfather. Larry loved his Labrador Retrievers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had a lifelong passion for music; creating a mix CD was among his favorite ways to spend a day. He was always up for a poker night, going fishing or playing a round of golf. You could count on him for a random piece of trivia, a solid (dad) joke or a stick of gum.
A memorial gathering will take place at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard, Dover, Ohio 44622 on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 4-8pm.
