Larry M. Nicsinger

Larry M. Nicsinger, 75, of Strasburg passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Union Hospital in Dover.

Born in Beach City on October 13, 1941, he was the son of the late Jacob and Violet (Levengood) Nicsinger. Larry was a 1961 graduate of Beach City High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball and lettered in each sport all four years . He retired from Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway Company and the Eaton Corporation following many years of service.

In 1996, he moved to Hilton Head Island where he owned and operated Main Street Cafe and the Edible Pursuits Bakery until his health forced him to sell and move back home. He also owned and operated the former Schenks Bar and Grill in Shanesville for many years.

Larry was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Strasburg, Brewster Moose, and the New Philadelphia Elks. He was also a 40 year member of the New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge #177 F. & A.M. where he was the past Master. He was in the Tuscarawas Chapter Royal Arch Mason, Tuscarawas Council Roy and Select Mason, Canton Commandery, Knights of Templar, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Canton. He received the Meritorious Service Award. He was a past member of the Tadmor Shrine Post Masters Unit, General Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star Bolivar Chapter #368, along with the National Association of Retired Veteran Railway Employees Inc. Navarre #42. He was also a member of the Mounted Sheriff Deputies.

Larry will be sadly missed by his 12 year companion and wife; Carol (Snyder) Rouse whom he married on November 14, 2015; two step-daughters, Renae Kleski of Dover, and Robyn Burkett of Strasburg; four grandchildren, Alex and Micah Burkett all of Strasburg, Courtney (Kyle) Kanouff of Strasburg, Rett Kleski of Strasburg; one great grandchild, Lennox Marie Kanouff; his sister, Dorothy (Wilbur) Carroll of Brewster; his nephew, Scott (Julie) Carroll of Strasburg; along with one great niece, one great nephew, and three great great nephews and one great great niece.

His greatest joy was doing things for his family. He made sure they always knew he loved them as he told them often. He went to every activity, Grandparent’s Day, and sporting event. It was always important to him to be there. His grandchildren’s Alex and Micah meant the world to him. There wasn’t anything in this world that he wouldn’t do for them. His eyes sparkled when he talked about them. He took his love for them with him, but his love will always remain here with them.

Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 4-7pm with the New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge #177 conducting a service at 6:45pm. A celebration of Larry’s life will take place at the First Lutheran Church in Strasburg on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 11:00 am with Pastor Karen Biggerstaff officiating. Interment will take place at Grandview Union Cemetery in Strasburg. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served in the church social hall.
