Laura E. Rowe, 91, of Strasburg died Sunday, December 1, 2013 in the Rose Lane Care Center at Massillon.
Born February 24, 1922 in Sugarcreek Township she was a daughter of the late Henry and Jennie Jentes Finzer. Laura was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard D. Rowe on March 8, 1996 and two brothers and four sisters.
Laura had a happy childhood with her brothers and sisters growing up in Sugarcreek. She attended school at Meadow Valley and Sugarcreek High School. During WW II she worked at Goodyear Aircraft and following the war, worked as a clerk in a Dover hardware store. On October 12, 1947 she married Howard Rowe, together they started their life working on the family farm and raising their children, Linda (Page) Bullock of Green and James (Rita) Rowe of Strasburg. Laura loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, Jennifer (Uwe) Trittmann, Brian (Megan) Rowe, Karen (Dale) Loveday and Elizabeth (Rob) Garver and great grandchildren, Cole Loveday, Arthur, Sophie and Anna Trittmann. In their retirement years, Laura and Howard spent the winter months at the Tara Mobile Home Park in Florida for 11 years where they made many good friends. Laura grew up in the Union Hill United Methodist Church in Sugarcreek and later was a faithful member of St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg where she was active with the Seasoned Seniors along with many different organizations within the church. She was a Band Mother for the Strasburg High School Band, and was a member of Strasburg AARP, Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau and many other dairy organizations and she dearly loved playing cards with the ladies of the Strasburg 500 Card Club.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 5 at 1:00 pm in the St. John United Church of Christ at Strasburg with Pastor Gary Friend officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Wednesday from 4-7 pm and one hour prior to the service at the church.
