Laura J. Eames (Luyster). 85, of Dover and formerly of Atwood Lake died Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the Community Hospice (Truman House) in New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.
Born Feb. 18, 1932 in Galt, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Winona (Barton) Pearl. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Eames who died Feb. 17, 1998 and her second husband, Ray Luyster who died Dec. 20, 2001. She was preceded by a granddaughter, Jennifer Eames and a brother, Rex Pearl.
Laura retired as the owner and operator of Blasenhauer Plumbing and Heating, the Dairy Bar and the Sunoco station in Mineral City for many years.
Laura was a member of the First Christian Church in Dover and also attended St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover. She was a member of the Bolivar Order of Eastern Star and was active in the Tuscarawas County Senior Center. She enjoyed playing many card games including bridge and euchre and was an avid bingo player as well as working crossword puzzles and Rummikub. She especially loved camping trips with her family and spending time at her 2nd home in St. Augustine, Florida.
She will be sadly missed by her family that includes her four children, Mark (Barbara) Eames of Cleveland, Keith (Charlene) Eames of Dover, Lori (Dave) Schwartz of Dover and Bart Eames of New Philadelphia along with her granddaughter, Eleesa Eames. She is also survived by two stepdaughters, Sandy Bair of Akron and Karen Gartrell of New Philadelphia.
A funeral service celebrating Laura’s life will be held Thursday, April 13 beginning at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Chris Mulpas officiating. Interment will be in the New Cumberland Cemetery. A reception will follow at the First Christian Church in Dover. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8pm. Laura’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff and friends she made at the Park Village Health Care Center, Northwood Village, and Community Hospice for the wonderful loving care she received.
