Laura J. Lance

Laura J. Lance, 87, of Strasburg died on Saturday, July 03, 2010 at Union Hospital following a long illness.

Born on September 4, 1922 in Lima, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Helen Engle Bercaw. She graduated from Jewett High School. Her husband, James H. A. Lance, whom she was married for over 50 years, preceded her in death on August 13, 2007.

Laura worked at the GE Plant in Dover for 7 years. She was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved being outdoors tending to her garden and feeding the birds and squirrels.

She is survived by her daughter, Pam (Paul) Shonk of New Philadelphia; her son, Todd Lance of Strasburg and his companion Linda Tate of Dover; four grandchildren, Laurie (George) Rennard of Tippecanoe, Lisa (Aaron) Blind of New Philadelphia, and James and Jessica Lance of Strasburg; along with four great grandchildren; George Jr, Bryce, and Alexa Rennard all of Tippecannoe, and Nadyne Alyza Blose of Sandyville; her sister, Ann Haubert of Wilmington, Ohio; and two sisters in law, Shirley Bercaw of New Philadelphia, and Carol Bercaw of North Canton.

In addition to her husband, two brothers; Ray and Ron Bercaw also precede her in death.

Her life will be celebrated in a public graveside service at Grandview Union Cemetery on Tuesday. July 6, 2010 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Gary Friend officiating. Following the service, a funeral reception will take place. Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Monday, July 5, 2010 from 5-8 pm.
