Laverne "Vern" Gilmore

Laverne "Vern" Gilmore, 80, of Dover passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at the Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia.

Born on January 11, 1936 in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late John and Arline (Overton) Gilmore. He was also preceded in death by his favorite fishing buddy and brother, Bob (wife, Jane) Gilmore. Vern graduated from New Philadelphia High School with the class of 1954. On May 13, 1956, he married the love of his life, Nancy Marshall.

He retired from Rees Cast Stone where he worked for many years.

Many of his close friends knew him as "Gilly." Vern loved spending his time outdoors mowing and tending to his yard. He was an avid fisherman. Above all, he cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Nancy, of almost 60 years; daughter, Susan (Matt) Stephens of Dover; Son, John Gilmore of Arizona; grandchildren, Lindsay (Brandon) Begue of Dover, Kelli Stephens (fianc, Tony Argento) of Dover, Tara (Steve) Spragg of Arizona, Bri (John) Chapman of Arizona, Jennalyn Gilmore of Arizona, Kristen Gilmore of Arizona; great-grandchildren, Lainey, Noah, and Carter Begue, Trevor and Grayson Spragg, Brayden Gilmore, and Winter Chapman.

In honoring his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. A memorial service will take place at the Dover funeral home on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 3:00 pm with Dode Overton officiating. Friends can call one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Following the service, a meal will be served at the First Moravian Church in Dover.
