Leatrice "Gerry" Freetage

Leatrice "Gerry" Freetage, 87, of Dover passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia.

Born on May 27, 1929 in Barnill, Ohio she was the daughter of the late John Sr. and Verna (Rainsburg) Hawkins. On May 22, 1954 she married Harold Freetage, who preceded her in death on February 4, 1983. She was also preceded in death by her four brothers; Laird, John, Urban, and Gene Hawkins; and her sister, Virginia "Maxine" Swinderman.

Gerry will be remembered for her unique sense of humor and infectious laugh. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, and was a talented cook and pie baker.

She attended of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia.
She will be missed by her children; Phyllis (Terry) Shumaker of Dover, Rick (Brenda) Fox of Bolivar, Joyce (Paul) Troyer of Stone Creek, and Patti (Bob) Weaver of Dover; eight grandchildren, Steve & Chad Shumaker, April Breitmeier, Aaron Fox, Aric Fox, Bryan Haynes, Jim Haynes, and Christy Riley, 17 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and she was expecting a fifth great-great grandchild in August.

A celebration of Gerry's life will be held at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 2:30pm with Pastor Allen Swinderman officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends are invited to call one hour prior to the service on Monday.
