Leonard D. Zuchegno, 74, of Dover, passed away April 29, 2012.
He was born May 7, 1937 at Dover, the son of the late Dominic & Barbara Kalich Zuchegno.
A hard working and loyal employee, he retired from Reeves Steel after 33 years of service.
Leonard was a big sports fan and really enjoyed following Notre Dame football, including having taken a number of trips to Indiana over the years to go and see the Fighting Irish play. He was a history buff and also enjoyed collecting coins. An Army veteran, he honorably served our country, having served a tour of duty in Germany.
A lifelong member of Dover's St. Joseph Church, Leonard was a 1956 graduate of the former St. Joseph High School. In his early years, he served as an altar boy.
He is survived by two loving and faithful sons, Michael (Kellie) of Dover & L. Chris (companion, Kathy Collins) of New Philadelphia.
In addition to his sons, Leonard is survived by his companion of 30 years, Ruth Hayden. A wonderful father and companion, he was also a loving grandpa who will be missed by his grandchildren, Kelsey (Ashton) Preston of Marietta and Nathan C. Zuchegno of New Philadelphia. He will also be missed by: two sisters, Rose Mossor of Massillon and Theresa (Dave) Berentz of New Philadelphia; two brothers, Robert (Kaye) Zuchegno and Frank Zuchegno of New Philadelphia; along with a number of nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by: a brother Genie; sister, Debbie; niece Lisa Mossor; and a nephew, Steve Berentz.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, May 3, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Matt Hoover officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Following the burial, family and friends will gather in the St. Joseph Family Life Center for a time of food and fellowship. Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. 9:45 a.m.
