Leonard M. McDonald Sr. a respected member of his community, passed away on September 20, 2024, at the age of 94.
Born on June 28, 1930, in, Caldwell, Ohio, he was the son of the late Henry and Pearl (Lanning) McDonald. Leonard led a life marked by dedication, service, and commitment to his work and community.
Leonard enjoyed a fulfilling career as a fabricator at Ecodyne MRM Inc. in Massillon, where he served diligently for 30 years before his retirement.
His sense of duty extended beyond his professional life; Leonard honorably served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. This commitment to service defined much of his life and reflected his values and dedication to the greater good.
Leonard remained active in his community long after his retirement. He was a proud member of the Caldwell Masonic Lodge #330 in Bolivar, where he built lasting friendships and contributed to the organization's mission. His involvement did not stop there, as he was also a member of the Beach City American Legion, the Tadmore Temple in Akron, and the Scottish Rite in Canton. These affiliations exemplify his dedication to community service, fraternal bonds, and a commitment to supporting others.
He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed fishing and camping. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.
He married Dorothy J. “Jeanie” McDonald, who preceded him in death on January 7, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his sisters; Vera May Markins, Leora Barlock, and Pauline Ridenbaugh; and brothers, John McDonald, Donavon McDonald, Robert McDonald, and Paul Rust.
Leonard was survived by his daughter; Connie (Jim) Hall of Beach City; son, Leonard “Marty” (Jennifer) McDonald, Jr. Port Washington; six grandsons, Dan McDonald, Eric (Missy) McDonald, Dominic Cottrell, Ray (Elizabeth) Cottrell, and Zachary (Raegan) McDonald, Donnie (Crystal) Hall Sr.; granddaughter, Abigail (Christopher) Dennis; great-grandchildren, Donnie Jr., Jaimee, Summer, Paisley, Lennon, Houston, Bristol, Brantley, and gage; his sister, Ruth White; along with many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Monday, September 23, 2024, from 5-7 pm. There will be a Masonic Service at 6:45 p.m. on Monday A funeral service will be held at the Dover Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Gary Piatt Officiating.
