Lewis A. "Jack" Dallau, 91, of Dover died early Tuesday morning, September 10, 2013 lovingly surrounded by his daughters following a brief illness.
Jack worked as a lathe operator for the Timken Company in Canton for over 42 years until his retirement in 1981.
Born December 19, 1921 in Roswell, Ohio, he was the son of the late Andrew and Catherine (Ruffini) Dallau.
He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover. He graduated from Midvale High School in 1940. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy (Seabees) during World War II and spent time in the Guadacanal and Okinawa. He was an active member of the Cy Young Old-timer's Baseball Association having served as Treasurer and its Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, New Philadelphia Elks Lodge and the Dover VFW. He and his late wife, Gloria enjoyed their many fun times with "The Flakes." He was also a "huge Cleveland Indians fan" and enjoyed all sports and spent countless evenings watching baseball and golf on television. In his younger years, he loved golf and could be frequently found at Five Waters Golf Course. He also enjoyed dancing and bowling and was a member of the Clum Tire Bowling team.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife Gloria (Paris) Dallau of 66 years who died July 15, 2012. He was also preceded by a brother, Abel Dallau and two sisters, Nora Lair and Matilda Dallau.
He will be sadly missed by his family including his two daughters Jacque (Tim) Halter of New Philadelphia and Joyce (John) Herzig of Dover; six grandchildren , Kellie (Joe) Feik, Kory Kochera, Wesley (Kelli) Halter, Trevor and Troy Herzig, and Tricia (Joel) McKinnon; 13 great grandchildren Josephine, Deany, Lewis, Leo, Jaclyn, Stella, Kylan, Alyssa, Ava, Alyvia, Jack, Stone, and Klaire; a sister, Paula Myers of New Philadelphia; a sister in law, Helen Dallau of Canton and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, September 13, 2013 at 2pm in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday from 4- 6pm. A reception will follow the visitation on Thursday at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center for family and friends.
