Linda (Warther) Martin Murray, 56, a lifelong resident of Dover died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016 in the Cleveland Clinic following a heroic battle with cancer.
Linda served as College/Career Service Administrator at Metropolitan Education Technology Association until illness forced her to retirement in February of 2016. Prior to META she was an Asst. Superintendent at Olentangy Local Schools from August 2009 until July 31, 2015. She began her career in education as an Elementary teacher at Indian Valley Schools having taught grades 3, 4, and 5. She was then a guidance counselor for the Clearfork School District. She was elementary principal at St. Clairsville Schools for 10 years and a Director of Curriculum and Instruction of special needs. She was a Curriculum Consultant for the Muskingum Valley Educational Center. She then became Director of Special Services for the Coshocton City Schools until July 2007. She served as Asst. Superintendent for the Green Local Schools from August 2007 until her most recent position at Olentangy.
Born Nov. 9, 1960 in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Jacob F. and Marjorie (Herbst) Warther. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mary Beth Warther and her father and mother in law, John and Katie Murray.
Linda was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and shopping for her family. Linda did everything in every way for her family. With her busy schedule, she managed to make it home for a family dinner every evening. She was also an animal lover.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Kent State University, Master of Science degree from the University of Dayton and did post graduate work at Ohio University, Ashland University and Muskingum College. She was two classes short of receiving her doctorate degree from Northcentral University because of her illness.
She will be sadly missed by her family including her husband of 15 years and sweetheart of 30 years, Jimmy Murray; two children, Tyler Murray (companion, Carrie Hay), Tanner (James) Murray Cravens both of Dover and six grandchildren, Rider, Katherine, Karlie, Cody, Auston and Ashlee; sisters and brothers, Paula (Robert) VanSickle of Dover, Joseph (Pam Lieser) Warther of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Jacob M. "Mike" Warther, and Patrice Warther all of Dover and Julie (Brian) Hungerman of Wooster.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 beginning at 10am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover. A reception will follow in the Winfield United Methodist Church. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Friday from 5-8pm. A Christian Wake Service will begin Friday at 7:45pm.
