Lisa G. Zimmerman, 42, of Strasburg, Ohio died Monday, March 24, 2003 in her home following a sudden illness.
Lisa began work at the City of New Philadelphia on December 17, 1997 until her death. She was the Clerk of the Municipal Court. She was a deputy clerk at the Tuscarawas County Clerk of Courts from November 18, 1994 thru December 17, 1997.
Born July 8, 1960 in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Moyne and Lilliemae Layman Zimmerman.
She was a member of the First Eva. Lutheran Church in Strasburg where she formerly taught Sunday school and served on the church council. She also enjoyed working with children and was active in 4H.
She was Vice Chairperson for the Tuscarawas County Democratic Party since 1994 and served on the Executive Committee since 1992. She was a member of the Ohio Democratic Party where she was convention delegate in 1994 and 1996. She also served on the Democratic National Committee and attended the National convention in 1996 and 2000. She was President of the Tuscarawas County Democratic Women, member and Past President of the Strasburg Democratic Women, Past President, secretary and treasurer of the Tuscarawas County Young Democrats.
She served on the Community Youth Connection Committee from 1999-2002 (supported by the Chrysalis Counseling Center), was active in the Miss Clayland Scholarship Program where she was Contestant Hostess and mock interview judge in preparation for the Miss Ohio and Miss America Scholarship programs. She was also an avid supporter of Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County, former member of the Strasburg Womens Club and enjoyed bocci where she was active in the Womens Bocci league.
She is survived by her nephew, Patrick (Connie) Bowen of Dover, three aunts; Doroth Zimmerman of Canton and her children, Lee and Kaye Ann, Juanita Matheny and her son, Skip of Byesville, Dolores Miller of Mashallville, Ohio and her uncle, Glen Zimmerman of Ragersville and his children Keith and Lori Ann.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Tim Bowen.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 am in the First Eva. Lutheran Church at Strasburg with Rev. Fred Grosse officiating with a reception to follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be in the New Buffalo Cemetery. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover on Thursday anytime after 2 pm with the family present from 5-8 pm.
