Lloyd D. Stephens

Lloyd D. Stephens, 61, of Tuscarawas, died suddenly Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, in his home.

Born, Feb. 16, 1947, in Barnesville, he was a son of the late Arden and Julia Sampson Stephens. Lloyd attended New Philadelphia High School, and was employed by the former Johnson Electric and its successor, Abbott Electric, of Canton. He was a staunch Republican who loved a good political conversation. Lloyd was a fan of all the Cleveland sports teams, especially the Indians. He enjoyed fishing and working with his hands, which, aside from his place of employment, included woodworking, model railroading and model airplanes. Above all, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Roseberry Stephens, whom Lloyd married on Nov. 19, 1962, in New Philadelphia; four daughters, Linda Stephens of Dover, Rebecca (Rodney) Knecht of Tuscarawas, Crystal (Terry) Schafer of Uhrichsville, and Victoria (Jim) Eichel of Billings, MT; a son, Ronald (fiance, Lorie Sigler) Stephens of Uhrichsville; eleven grandchildren; a sister, Veda (husband, Frank Specht) Stephens of Uhrichsville; five brothers, Chester Stephens of Roswell, Larry (Nelva) Stephens of Sacramento, CA, Rodney Stephens of Uhrichsville, Tom (Pattie) Stephens and Lenza (Wendy) Stephens, both of Dover; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Stephens.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 803 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, with Pastor Scot Caley of Park Christian Church, Dennison, officiating. Following the service, the family will host a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard, Dover.
