Lloyd A. Herbert, 81 of Dover passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Ohio's Hospice Truman House surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Dennison November 13, 1942 to the late Charles and Virginia Whitlach Herbert. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Rose McMannis, and step sister, Debra Wolfe.
Lloyd graduated from Dennison High School in 1960 and later went on to serve his country proudly as a veteran of the United States Army. Following his military service, he established a successful 20 year career at Montgomery Ward. He was then employed at the Tuscarawas County Auditor’s office, where he worked diligently until his retirement.
A man of tremendous faith, Lloyd was a valued member of the Dover Alliance Church where he found solace and community. In his leisure time, Lloyd found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He held a deep appreciation for the outdoors and could often be found hunting or enjoying a round of golf with his two sons and his friends.
Lloyd leaves behind a legacy cherished by his surviving family members and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sally J. Swinderman Herbert, whom he married on September 11, 1966. He will be deeply missed by his sons Jay (Lori) Herbert and Joel (Devi Jo) Herbert, both residing in Dover. Additionally, Lloyd is survived by his step brother James (Polly) Wolfe of Bowerston; step sisters Angela Cerveny of Nebraska, Marsha Knutson of Iowa, Kathy Wolfe of Grove City; four grandchildren, Monica (Kyle) Chupp, Carly (Hunter) Harned, Jason Herbert, Jayvin Herbert; six step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 16th starting at 11:00 am in the Dover Alliance Church with Pastor Bruce Sexton and Pastor Rick Rose officiating. The family will be greeting friends on Wednesday in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover from 5 to 7 pm.
