Louis Lee “Louie” Quillen, 53, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, July 1, 2004, in his home with his loving family at his side. Louie�(TM)s death was due to cancer, against which he fought a hard battle.
Born February 3, 1951, in Pensacola, FL, he was the son of Mary Helen McCarty Quillen of New Philadelphia, and the late Clifford Quillen. Louie graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1969, and, later that year, joined the U.S. Army, where he served until 1971. In 1972, Louie joined the U.S. Air Force in which he served until 1984. He was very proud of his service to his country. Louie was an employee of Saint-Gobain of Dover, until illness forced him into disability. He also worked for the former Naylor Funeral Home, New Philadelphia.
Louie was a life member of Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, New Philadelphia, and the Loyal Order of Moose of Uhrichsville. He enjoyed water-skiing and camping at Tappan Lake, where he and his wife camped seasonally. Time spent with the friends he met at Tappan Lake was very important to Louie. Also, he liked to fish and play golf.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Ethel Hadorn Walker Quillen, whom he married on August 4, 2000; his grandmother, Emma McCarty of New Philadelphia; son, Scott Quillen of Pennyslvania; daughter, Caroline Quillen; two sisters, Debbie Duffer of Richmond, VA, and Teresa Everett of New Philadelphia; a brother, Mark (Angie) Quillen of Burleson, TX; two step-sons, Paul and Michael Walker of New Philadelphia; a grandson; two aunts; three nieces and an nephew.
Besides his father, Louie was preceded in death by a granddaughter and a brother.
Louie�(TM)s life will be celebrated in a service Saturday, July 3, at 10:30 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover. Pastor Larry Fletcher of the First Assembly of God, New Philadelphia (the church the Louie attended as a child and young man), will officiate. Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia, where military rites will be presented by the New Philadelphia post of the V.F.W. Following the committal, there will be a reception in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
