Lowell F. Austin, 97, of Canton, and formerly of Strasburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 in the Rose Lane Health Center at Massillon.
Born October 21, 1917 in Zoar he was a son of the late Floyd and Nellie Baker Austin. Lowell was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Ivy Parsons Austin, on January 16, 2012; brother, Elson Austin and sister, Virginia Napier.
Lowell retired as a tool and die maker from Eaton Manufacturing after 35 years of service. He was a member of Strasburg United Methodist Church, Alpha Class and also served as a trustee. Lowell enjoyed hunting and fishing and was also a member of the North Industries Sportsman's Club. He proudly served his country with the US Army during WW II and was a member of the Charles Hofer Post of the Strasburg American Legion and the New Philadelphia VFW.
A loving father and grandfather, Lowell will be missed by his daughter, Kay (Alex) Dottavio of Canton; brother, Don Austin of Coshocton; grandchildren, David (Bonnie) Dottavio, Alexis (Anthony) McAfee and great grandchildren, Dannielle, Gabrielle, Aiden and Brice Dottavio.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 21 at 11:00 am in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Jason Humble officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends can call at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
