M. Jeanne Patterson

Jeanne Patterson, 94, of New Philadelphia died Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in the Truman House at Community Hospice surrounded by her loving family.

Born December 27, 1921 in New Philadelphia she was a daughter of the late Robert and Edna Hostetler Hewitt. Jeanne was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Richard "Pat" Patterson on April 12, 2006; infant son, Charles Patterson and brother, William Hewitt.

She graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1939 and during WW II she proudly served as a secretary with the Navy Department. Jeanne was a long time and devoted member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia where she was involved with the United Methodist Women, 50 year member of the choir, served as Choir Leader, played the organ, piano and was a long time Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of AARP and the New Philadelphia Elks. Jeanne was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who loved feeding birds, reading and music. She and Pat enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Canada, just relaxing with family and friends. Jeanne was also a sports enthusiast, especially rooting for her beloved Cleveland Indians.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Barbara) Patterson, MaryAnn (Larry) Howell, Jerry D. Patterson all of New Philadelphia, Thomas (Karen) Patterson of Bowerston and Bill (Diana) Patterson of Lafferty, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Robert, Richard, Daniel, Sarah, Timothy, Christopher, Amanda, Shawn, Jeffrey, Tracy; 20 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren and her special friend and neighbor, Karen Powell.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3 at 1:30 pm in the Otterbein United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia with Pastor Jon Long officiating. Interment will be at the East Avenue Cemetery. Following the burial, a luncheon will be held in the church social hall. Friends can call at the Otterbein United Methodist Church on Friday from 6-8 pm. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover is handling arrangements.
