Mable Irena Randolph McConnell, 95, a resident of Dover, and most recently New Philadelphia, died Sunday, May 18, 2008.
She was born July 4, 1912 at Lafferty, the daughter of the late Addison Price & Clara Alice Bonifant Randolph.
Mable was an active member of the Midvale United Methodist Church where she served as an organist and, for many years, was a member of the choir.
A talented homemaker, Mable had a variety of interests and skills that helped make her house feel like a home for so many years. She enjoyed both cooking and reading; thus, it should be no surprise that she loved reading cookbooks and trying new recipes to share with family and friends. Over the years her vegetable garden also played a role in her homemade goodies and most of what was grown in the garden was canned or used right away to help make her meals perfect. She was also a talented seamstress who made her own clothes.
Later on in life, she stayed sharp by continuing to read and solve crossword puzzles.
She was an exceptional woman. She gave to others and never asked for anything in return. Family and friends will miss her, especially by her daughter, with whom she resided.
Along with her parents, Mable was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years John F. McConnell. Other members of her family that preceded her in death are: daughter, Mary Belle Jones and infant daughter Luella; five sisters; three brothers; one great grandson, Paul L. Jones; and one great granddaughter, Mary Lynn Smart; and son-in-law, Max Davis.
Surviving family members include: a daughter Lillian Davis of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Vivian Jones, Mary Balder and Floyd "Jr." Jones; son-in-law, Floyd Jones; 11 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Rev. Joel Adkins will officiate a funeral service that celebrates Mable's life on Wednesday, May 21 at 1:30 p.m. in Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Afterward, a meal will be served for family and friends in the Midvale United Methodist Church. Friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m.
Those unable to attend or wishing to share a fond memory may sign the online register book for Mable by visiting the "obituaries" link on the funeral home's website.
The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the Midvale United Methodist Church, PO Box 247, Midvale, 44653.
