Manfred H. Gritzan

Manfred H. Gritzan, 75, of Strasburg, Ohio died Thursday, December 30, 2010 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a brief illness.

Born June 16, 1935 in Essen, Germany, he was the son of the late Adam and Hedwig (Bernard) Gritzan.

Manfred was a 26year employee of Sugardale Meats in Canton until illness forced his retirement in 1984.

He was a member of the New Apostolic Church in Massillon. He previously served in the National Guard. He enjoyed camping, fishing and boating, and vacationing with his family.

He is survived by his wife Judith (Zimmer) Gritzan with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage last May 24; three children, Tammy (husband, Terry) Mann and Troy Gritzan both of Bolivar and Terry Gritzan of Lodi; four grandchildren, Adam (wife, Martina) Mann, and Ryan Mann, Kyle and Rachel Gritzan all of Bolivar; three sisters, Inge Gonzales of Florida, Helga Weigel of Washington, and Frechein Selig of Massillon and his special canine companion Sadie along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Manfred was preceded in death by a son, Todd M. Gritzan who died April 18, 2006 along with two brothers, Herbert and Eric Gritzan and a sister, Hedwig Klapper.

A funeral celebrating Manfred's life will be held Monday evening, January 3, 2011 at 8pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Evangelist Scott Hussing officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5-8pm. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11am in the Brookfield Cemetery in Massillon.
