Margaret A. Hamsher, age 89, of Dover, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021, in Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital where she was taken after becoming ill.
Born September 4, 1931, in New Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Matthew and Katherine Rausch Banks. Margaret graduated from Sugarcreek-Shanesville High School, where she was a cheerleader. She married Edward D. “Ed” Hamsher on March 4, 1950; the couple reared four children and shared 54 years of marriage prior to Ed’s passing on November 20, 2004. Margaret was a loving homemaker who volunteered for Union Hospital’s Mobile Meals for 36 years. She also gave freely of her time and talents to several other charitable Tuscarawas County organizations.
Margaret was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Dover. She loved playing golf and was a tremendous sports fan - especially of the Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavaliers. She enjoyed gardening and walking as well.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Edward (Kristina) Hamsher of East Sparta, Sandra Hamsher of Dover, Ronald (Denise) Hamsher of Louisville, and Alan Hamsher of Stow; her grandchildren, Matthew (Lindsay), Michael (Chelsee), Tanner, Meredith, Justin, Kellon, Jessica, Paige and Jennifer Hamsher; her great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Caroline, Violet and Ruby Hamsher; her sister, Lois (Reza) Vahdati-Bana; her sister-in-law, Shirley Banks; and her nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, and her husband, Ed, Margaret was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Dana Hamsher; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and David Rice; her sister, Barbara Keener; her brothers, Bobby and Matthew Banks; and her step-mother, Lucille Banks.
Because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, private family services will be held. Pastor David St. Aubin will officiate. Burial will be alongside Ed in Dover Burial Park. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover.
