Margaret Dawn Gilmore, age 77, of New Philadelphia (Brightwood) passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017, in Community Hospice’s Truman House.
Born October 12, 1940, in Dover, she was a daughter of the late Edward “Buster” and Melva G. Grimm Rothacher. Dawn attended Dover High School, and was employed by the former Mister Donut and the New Dawn Retirement Community, both of Dover, and as a crossing guard for New Philadelphia Schools - a job she loved because of the children she saw every day.
Dawn belonged to the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was kindhearted and fond of animals. She enjoyed craftwork, having company and throwing parties. Dawn was an excellent cook - she cooked enough for an army – and Christmas was her favorite time of the year.
Survivors include her husband, Harold D. “Gilly” Gilmore, whom she married August 12, 1974; her children, Tanya (Jeff) Dickey of New Philadelphia, Debbie (Bob) Barrett of Dennison, Mark Meechan of Sherrodsville, and David (Theresa) Gilmore of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Hannah and Kyle Meechan, Cory (fiancée, Jess Matronia) Ferris, Janessa and Jeremy Gilmore, Brandi (Bob) Hudnal, Allison (John) Buerkel, Zack Barrett, Jeffrey (companion, Faye Smith) Dickey Jr., Virginia (Shawn) Roup and Jenny (Pat) Powers; her sister, Eileen Stuber; her many great-grandchildren; and her nieces, nephews – including Lin (Gene) Sidel, Lailonie (Bruce) Reese and Jeff (Nona) Stuber - and her cousins, with whom she shared many good times.
In addition to her parents, her son, Mike Gilmore, and her step-father, Edward E. Hines, who played a major role in her upbringing, preceded Dawn in death.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 14, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor David Wing officiating. Burial of Dawn’s cremated remains will follow in Dover’s Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Dawn, please visit the obituaries link on the funeral home’s website.
The family suggests that contributions in Dawn’s memory be made to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Rd. N.E., or Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., both addresses at New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
