Margaret J. "Peg" Baker, 84, a longtime Strasburg resident, died Sunday, September 27, 2009 in the Park Village Health Care Center.
She was born November 16, 1924 at Dover, the daughter of the late Carl Hoopingarner & Mary "Mabel" Allison Hoopingarner Graf.
Peg was a skilled bookkeeper who started her career working for the former Garver Brothers Store in Strasburg. She then did books for several auto dealerships and trucking companies before retiring from the former John Edwards Pontiac of Canton in 1979.
She was a graduate of Dover High School and a member of the First Lutheran Church at Strasburg. She was proud of her affiliation with the Strasburg American Legion Auxiliary, having been past president.
Always looking to stay busy, Peg also had a variety of talents that included embroidery and cross-stitch, reading, and even playing the piano and organ.
Her husband, Eldred "Bill" Baker, died May 9, 1997.
Surviving family members include: a son-in-law; Thomas "Bou" Marchand of Winfield; three grandchildren, Thomas Marchand, II of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Beth (Dan) Varner of Winfield, and Tyler (Darla) Marchand of Dover; four great grandchildren, Shelby & Nathan Varner and Morgan & McKenna Marchand; a niece Sylvia (Robert) Stephens; and a nephew, John (Susan) Hoopingarner.
Along with her parents and husband, Peg was preceded in death by: a daughter, Bonnie; and two brothers, Doyle and Dallas Hoopingarner.
A public memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 30, at 6:00 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Friends may call one hour prior to the ceremony.

The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd Street, Dover.
