Margaret Stancu Howard

Margaret (Stancu) Howard, 85, of Dover died Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Park Village Health Care Center in Dover.

Born February 9, 1925 in Dover, she was the daughter of the late S. Imrie Stancu and Anna Boyer Stancu.

Margaret attended Dover High School and was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Dover.

After World War II, she was employed at the Hercules Co. in Canton, Ohio. Margaret moved to Rockford, Illinois in the early 1950's. There she met and married Warren Howard. They were married for 38 years at the time of Warren's passing in 1994. Margaret and Warren were avid bowlers and a formidable couples team. They bowled in several leagues and won many awards.

After her husband's death in 1994, Margaret moved back to Dover. She enjoyed walking at New Towne Mall and eating out with her sister, Anne. She was a friendly person and especially liked having lunch with other senior citizens at the Senior Center in Dover. After moving to Park Village Assisted Living in 2007, she greatly enjoyed interacting with the residents there and participating in the activities.

Margaret is survived by her sister, Anne Stancu of Dover and nephews, Victor (wife, Marjorie) Strimbu of Avon Lake, and Retired Col. George (wife, Vivian) Strimbu of Centennial, Colorado. Family members who preceded her in death in addition to her parents and husband were brothers, George Stancu of Lynn, Mass., Jack Stancu of Dover, and John W. Stancu of Bloomington, IN, sister, Veda Yakus of Dover and nephews, Jack E. Strimbu of Thornton, Colorado and Kenneth J. Yakus of Dover.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Rev. Donald Rice Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-7pm.
