Marian K. Meissner, 92, of Strasburg, and a long-time resident of Zoarville, died Thursday, February 14, 2008, in Hennis Care Centre at Dover.
Born, January 20, 1916, in Sandyville, Marian was a daughter of the late James and Clara Dine Homan. She was a homemaker a loving mother grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Marian was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in New Philadelphia.
Marian had a wonderful sense of humor, which endeared her to her family and friends. She also had a great memory, being able to easily recall events in the past and matters of everyday life. Marian's vision was impaired from the time she was a child, and so, she very much enjoyed listening to the Cleveland Indians on the radio (never missing a game), as well as Dover High School basketball and audio books.
Christmas and Christmas dinner very special to Marian, as it revolved around faith and family. She was also very fond of picnics in warm weather. As was mentioned earlier, she loved her children, grandchildren, their children, and their children's children, and was grateful for the precious time she had with them.
Survivors include two daughters, Jan (Bob) Yannayon and Marge (Gary) Jentes, both of New Philadelphia; a son, Jerry (Leigh) Meissner of Akron; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Marian was preceded in death by infant twin sons, Ronald and Donald Meissner; a daughter, Connie Maher; four sisters, Marge Glover, Melba Muhlheim, Mabel Blake and Mildred Young; three brothers, Harold, Howard and Herbert Homan.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Sunday, February 17, 1 5 p.m. A funeral service for Marian will be held Monday, February 18, at 10:30 a.m., in the First Church of the Nazarene, with Dr. Fred L. Wallis and Rev. William H. Waltz officiating. Burial will be in East Sparta Cemetery. Following the committal, there will be a meal in the First Church of the Nazarene.
