Marian Louise Doney, 84, of Strasburg, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, in Union Hospital, Dover, from complications of a fall in 2005.
Born Dec. 9, 1925, in New Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Mary Tabernack Walters. Marian graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1944, where she was in the marching band. She was employed as a cashier for the J.J. Newberry Co. in New Philadelphia, and on May 24, 1949, married Clarence E. Doney in what was then St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, Dover.
Marian was a loving homemaker whose greatest joy was her family. She always put others first, and was always positive and looking for the good in people and events. This characteristic of Marian's was inspirational, as she set an example of how to live a life of kindness.
She loved being outdoors, gardening, growing flowers and taking care of cats. Marian also liked to travel, and visited much of the United States, often going to see family, friends and attending Clarence's Navy reunions.
Marian was truly the sunshine of her family's lives, and she will be missed. Survivors include her devoted husband, Clarence; a daughter, Janice (Dave) Jones of Powell; two sons, Glen (Kimberly) Doney of Hot Sulphur Springs, CO, and Dave Doney of Delaware, OH; four grandchildren, Sarah (Chris) Olson, Justin (Darcy) Doney, and Andrew and Amy Jones; three great-grandchildren, Ethan and Evan Olson, and Chantel Doney; a sister, Katherine June (Arnold) Zontini of Fairfield, KY; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Coffey Siders; and a sister-in-law, Edna Teter, with whom she was very close.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Marian's pastor, Rev. Lynda K. Masters of Strasburg United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Union Cemetery, Strasburg. Following the committal, there will be a meal in the Strasburg United Methodist Church.
