Marilyn L. Hirning, 77, of Dover, Ohio died Sunday morning, January 30, 2011 in Union Hospital following an extended illness.
Marilyn, a caregiver for most of her life, worked as a Nurse's assistant at Union Hospital for twenty five years and also previously worked at Country Club Center at Dover. She was also a longtime volunteer for Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County and the Area Agency on Aging.
Born August 15, 1933 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Harold E. Walton and Lillian Jaberg Walton Sanders.
She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover. She was also active in the Union Hospital Retirees, Dover Historical Society and the Red Hat Society. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren who referred to her as Mimi. She also loved her feline companion, Squeeky and spent hours upon hours in her flower garden. She enjoyed her collection of angels and was passionate about sending cards to family and friends for all occasions.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, John L. Hirning who died April 24, 2001. She was also preceded by her son, Worth N. Hirning and a brother, Thomas Walton.
She will be sadly missed by her children, John E. (wife, Rosemarie) Hirning of Dover, Thomas D."TD" (wife, Annette Cookson) Hirning of New Philadelphia, Sandra Jo (husband, Thomas) Tindall of Edmonds, Washington, Fred C. Hirning of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, David A. Hirning of Dover and Douglas P. (wife, Rachel) Hirning of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; her thirteen grandchildren, Samantha, Taylor, Harlen, Tyre, Marilyn, Chad, Melissa, Chelsey, Suzanne, Krista, Robert, Jessica, Carson, Casey, and Josie, along with seventeen great grandchildren and her sister, Carole Miday of Canton and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Marilyn's life will be held Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 at 1pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Dr. William Haggis officiating. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 11am until 1pm. Marilyn will be cremated and will be laid to rest privately beside her husband, John at East Lawn Cemetery in Sugarcreek.
