Marion C. “Pat” Patton, 90, of Strasburg, died peacefully Sunday, March 4, 2007, in his home.
Born February 19, 1917 at Dover, he was the son of the late Olba & Augusta Strickroth Patton.
A plumber by trade, he retired from Plumbing Contractors and Supply after 35 years of hard work and dedicated service. Professionally, he had been a member of the United Association of Journeymen & Apprentices of the Pipefitters Union.
Pat was a 1935 graduate of Dover High School. In June of 1941, he became one of the first Tuscarawas County residents to enlist during wartime. As a young soldier in the Army, he was a member of the 803rd Tank Destroyer Battalion that landed on Normandy Beach. Among his honors were the Good Conduct, Victory and Campaign and Service medals. He finished his active duty in 1945 while stationed in Czechoslovakia. He was proud of his country, and understandably, his family was proud of him. He went on to be a 50-year member of the Dover VFW.
He enjoyed being outdoors; mostly relaxing or tending to his lawn at home, and also dabbled in Lapidary.
He was a member of the First Moravian Church at Dover.
On November 2, 2005, he was saddened by the loss of his wife of nearly 63 years, Ruth Capper Patton. In addition to his loving wife and his parents, three brothers, Glenn, Bill, & Dean Patton, preceded him in death.
Surviving family members include: a daughter, Christie (Richard) Barnhouse of Strasburg; three grandchildren, Fred Barnhouse, Suzanne (William) Patterson, and James (Sherry) Barnhouse; thee great grandchildren, Derek & Garrett Patterson, and Danielle Barnhouse; and nine nieces and nephews, Jeanne Marie (Dr. Phil) Goldberg of Arizona, Joyce Barton, Tom Patton, Elaine Scatizzi, Dean Patton, Beverly Hahn, James C. Patton, John H. Patton, and Debbie Conner.
Rev. Allen Bergmann will lead a ceremony that celebrates Pat�(TM)s life on Wednesday, March 7, at 11:00 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park where Pat�(TM)s comrades from the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. Friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7p.m.
