Marjorie M. Johnson, 88, a lifelong resident of Bolivar died Monday, June 27, 2011 in the Hennis Care Centre at Bolivar following an extended illness.
Marjorie retired in 1995 from Camp Wanake United Methodist Church in Beach City. She was also a former employee of the O.H.S. Historic Zoar Village, Ft. Laurens State Memorial, Ohio Bureau of Employment Services and Bolivar Elementary School.
Born August 18, 1922 in Bolivar, she was the daughter of the late Arvine J. and Georgia M. (Leeper) Wolf.
She was a 1940 graduate of Bolivar High School and attended the Canton Actual Business College. She was a longtime member of the Bolivar United Methodist Church where she was the former church organist, Sunday Schoolteacher, and Past Secretary/Treasurer of the United Methodist Women. She was also the former Treasurer of the Canton District of United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Bolivar Study Club. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed attending their many activities. She was an avid Mt. Union Football fan and spent many hours knitting.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Howard "Bud" Johnson who died May 21, 2000 following 57 years of marriage. An infant son, Tom Howard Johnson, two brothers, George and Arvine "Davy" Wolf and three sisters, Amelia Lash, Eleanor and Mary Wolf also preceded her.
She is survived by her daughter Annette (Lenny) Woods of Bolivar and son, Timothy Johnson of Canton; four grandchildren, Taylor Rose Woods, Brady Woods, Heather Trump, and Cody Johnson and a great granddaughter, Larianna Johnson.
A celebration of Marjorie's life will be held Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 11am in the Bolivar United Methodist Church with Pastor Paula Koch officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband Howard in the Ft. Laurens Cemetery. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Wednesday from 6-8pm and at the church Thursday from 10-11am.
