Martha J. Hawk, 88, of Dover died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 in the New Dawn Health Care Center at Dover following an extended illness. She had previously also resided in Fort Myers, Florida.
Born Dec. 15, 1923 in Tuscarawas County, she was the daughter of the late George and Bessie (Holingbaugh) Burgess. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Hawk who died Sept. 5, 1985 and a sister, Mary Stucky.
Martha was previously employed by The Hoover Company in Canton and Ehler's General Store near Mineral City.
She was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ at Dover and enjoyed traveling throughout the world.
She will be sadly missed by her family including a daughter, Nancy (Howard) Gerber and a son, Robert D. Hawk both of Dover; two grandchildren, Lisa (Kevin) Leitner of Tallmadge and Mike (Teresa) Gerber of Dover and five great grandchildren, Chase, Paige and Keira Leitner and Gavyn and Kaden Gerber.
A celebration of Martha's life will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 beginning at 4pm in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center with Pastor Dotty Hartzell officiating. A reception will follow from 4:30pm until 5:30pm. Following cremation, she will be laid to rest with her husband Donald in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
