Martha Jane Lanz

Martha Jane "Janie" Lanz, 83, of Dover, Ohio died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.
Janie and her husband, Fred "Fritz" Lanz were co-owners and operators of the former Mumma Furniture Store at Dover along with Ted and Ruth Loessi.

Jane was born Dec. 21, 1928 in Dover, the daughter of the late Charles H. and Martha (Smith) Reichman.

She was a lifelong member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dover. She was a member of the Altar Guild for many years and also promoted the Prayer Shawl Program. The shawls were given to anyone needing solace and were hand knitted by members of the church. She was also a charter member of the local order of Saint Luke. Painting china was one of her many talents. She created many pieces which she fired in her own kilns and many of them were given as gifts to friends as an expression of love and caring. In her earlier years, she enjoyed an occasional round of golf.

She will be sadly missed by her family including her husband, Fritz with whom she was married for over 62 years; two sons, Charles "Chuck" Lanz of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Joseph "Joe" Lanz of Suisan City, California. In addition, she is survived by a granddaughter and two great granddaughters.

A celebration of Jane's life will be held Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at 3pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with the Rev. Donald Rice officiating. Cremation will follow the services and she will be privately interred at a later date in the Union Hill Cemetery at Sugarcreek. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 1pm.to 3pm.
