Martha Mae Reynolds, 83, of Milford, and a former resident of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009, in Cincinnati.
Born June 10, 1926 in New Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Leo Emerson and Ida Mae Umstott McNeeley. Martha was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia for seventy-eight years, fifty of them as organist " music was her life. Martha started the “Your Family Altar” radio show in the 1950(TM)s, and was the organist and soloist with that program for some twenty-five years.
She operated her own personal care ministry providing those in need with transportation, food rent and other support. When her husband retired, the couple drove for the Red Cross, which included transporting patients to dialysis.
Martha was very family-oriented, and was the dedicated, supportive loving mother of a special needs child at a time when outside assistance was not readily available. She had a happy disposition and was quick with a smile and laugh. Martha loved gardening and often canned and froze the fruits and vegetables she grew.
In the summer, Martha(TM)s grandchildren would each have their own special week to visit, and she always had activities planned such as fishing, biking, putt-putt golf, and visiting parks, yard sales and Amish country.
For the past five years at her home in Milford, she enjoyed her family and new friends, and continued playing the organ sometimes accompanied by others on their own instruments.
Survivors include two daughters, Vicki (Ron) Clarke of Owensville, and Kathryn Reynolds of Williamsburg; two grandchildren, Gwyn (Gregory) Stout of Sharonville, and Chris (Sarah) Clarke of Owensville; three great-grandchildren, Ephram and Miya Stout and Elijah Clarke.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Maurice J. Reynolds; and siblings, Mary, Ralph, Isabelle and Alvin.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 12, at 1 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, 878 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, with Pastor Steven E. LoVellette of Faith Church, Milford, officiating. Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia. Family and friends may call at the First Baptist Church on Saturday, 11 a.m. " 1 p.m.
