Martha N. Byer, 86, of Dover passed away on March 31,
2008, at Hennis Care Centre after a short illness.
Born on May 18th, 1921 in Greendale, OH, she was the
daughter of the late Charles and Bernice (Ralph) Vaughn.
She was a graduate of Dover High School. On May 2, 1941, she married Raymond Byer, who preceded her in death on May 17, 1997. During World War II, she worked at the Dover Library before taking a job at the Dover Appliance Factory in Dover making canteen cups. After the war she devoted her life to taking care of her husband and their three children. She loved children and was happiest when the yard was full of neighborhood children. She was a Brownie
troop leader and taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School at St. John's United Church of Christ. Family and friends always knew she would be there for them with unconditional love and support.
She is survived by two daughters, Connie (Fred) Byzinker of Tacoma, WA and Debbie (John) Antonelli of Woodbridge, VA, a son, Jan (Pam) Byer of Canal Winchester, OH, seven grandchildren, Matthew (Heather) Botnen, Elizabeth (Elmer) Patoc, August (Nicole) Byzinker, Francesca (Kevin) Lilley, John Antonelli, Zachary Vought, and Devan Byer, four great
grandchildren, Adam and Emily Botnen and Ethan and Andrew Byzinker, a brother, Joseph (Gloria) Vaughn of New Philadelphia, OH and her special friend Rose (Mike) Penso and their son Mike of Bolivar, OH.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Robert Vaughn.
A celebration of Martha's life will be held at Toland-
Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Michael Lowry
officiating. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. Burial will follow the service at Dover Burial Park.
