Marvin Doyle Bartles, age 77, of Uhrichsville, formerly of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, November 3, 2015, in Union Hospital at Dover, following a long illness.
Born February 21, 1938, at Dover, he was a son of the late John and Billie (Steel) Bartles. Marvin graduated from Midvale High School and went on to serve honorably with the United States Navy. He was employed b the Reeves and AK Steel Companies, Dover, retiring in 1994.
Marvin was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge, both at New Philadelphia, the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens and the Uhrichsville Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had many interests; among them were woodcarving - especially ducks, gardening - and composting that went along with it, the study of the German language, day trips, auctions and going out to eat.
Survivors include his children, Holly C. Cline and David C. Bartles, both of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Alisha and Erin Cline; his niece and nephew, Amy (Raymond) Miller and John Bartles, both of Gnadenhutten; his sister-in-law, Fe Bartles, also of Gnadenhutten; his companion, Erma Stephan of Dover; his friend and buddy, Eric Reip of New Philadelphia; and his former wife, Carol (Michael) Stephens also of New Philadelphia.
Besides his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his brothers, John Earl, Henry Sparling and Gilbert "Gib" Bartles.
Honoring his wishes, Marvin will be cremated; a memorial service will be held Saturday, November 7, at 3:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, with Marvin's friend, Bishop Paul Robb of the Flame of Pentecost Bethel Chapel at Dover officiating. Burial will be later in Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery near Tuscarawas.
