Marvin O. "Mo" Wertman, 82, of Dover died Monday evening, March 26, 2012 in Union Hospital at Dover following a five month illness.
Born September 15, 1929 in Dover, he was the son of the late Robert and Dorothy (Wood) Wertman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Paddy (Cozart) Wertman with whom he was married for 26 years until her passing on Dec. 7, 1980. He was also preceded by his longtime friend and companion, Carole Rexroad who died in 2009.
Marvin was a longtime bricklayer by trade and previously worked for the former Gundy Construction Company in New Philadelphia. His work can be seen around the county at places like Union Hospital, Park School (now Dover Middle School) the lighthouse in Tuscora Park along with many churches including the Dover Bible Church where he was a faithful member for many years. He enjoyed using his skills on mission trips to Mexico where he enjoyed partnering with his bricklayer buddy, Keith Stoneman.
Mo was a 1947 graduate of Dover High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a Life Member of the Bricklayers Union. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent countless hours fishing. He also enjoyed working in his abundant garden and was known for his giant zucchini and corn.
He will be sadly missed by his children Mark (Sandra) Wertman of Dover and Marla (Michael) Trimmer of Dennison; three grandchildren, Dane Trimmer of Dennison, Evan (Ryan) Stull of Uhrichsville, and Reagan Trimmer of Alliance; his beautiful great granddaughter, Stella Stull; two sisters Donna (David) Csitovits of Lawrence, Kansas and Nancy (Eugene) Hawk of Massillon and his brother, Homer "Buzz" (Dawna) Wertman of Gloucester, Virginia; his three good friends Edgar, Hank, and Keith along with his Dover Buehlers Store family.
A funeral celebrating Marvin's life will be held Friday, March 30, 2012 at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Dennis Trimmer officiating. Cremation will follow the service and he will be laid to rest beside his wife Paddy in the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-8pm.
