Mary Ann Damiene, 82, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, Apr. 11, 2006, in her home.
Born Sept. 12, 1923, in Dennison, Mary was a daughter of the late John and Asunta Santa Lucia Russo. She graduated from Dennison High School in 1942, and volunteered at the Dennison Canteen during the war. On Oct. 27, 1951, she married Frank Damiene in Immaculate Conception Church, Dennison. Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and, along with Frank, did her very best to provide a good home environment for her family. She was also employed for a number of years as a cook for Tuscarawas County Central Catholic High School.
Mary was a member of St. Joseph Church, Dover; the Sacred Heart Church Senior Citizens group of New Philadelphia, and the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens group. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, and had a way about her that made people feel at home. Mary especially liked babysitting neighborhood children and growing flowers.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Schram of Strasburg; a son, Joseph M. (Christine) Damiene of Columbus; a granddaughter, Haley Jo Schram of Strasburg; two sisters, Lucy Heck of New Philadelphia, and Kathryn Burdette of Dover; a brother, John (Mary) Russo of Uhrichsville; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her dear husband, Frank, in 1995; two sisters, Carmella Russo and Ann Zurcher; and by a brother, Mitchell Russo, who died in World War II.
A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Apr. 18, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Joseph Church with Fr. William L. Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dover. Following the committal, there will be a meal served in Strasburg United Methodist Church.
