Mary Ann Pershing, 86, of Dover, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021, surrounded by her family.

Born on July 24, 1934, in New Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Chester Dapoz and Mary Yosick Dapoz Reiger. On January 17, 1953, she married Daniel Pershing, who preceded her in death on December 16, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Fondriest and brother, Chet Dapoz.

Mary Ann was a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph High School, where she was the homecoming queen. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover.

She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed being outdoors and loved all that nature had to offer including the birds and all wildlife. She also enjoyed mowing, cooking, and canning. She was an animal lover and adopted many strays over the years. She leaves behind her beloved cat named “Kitty.”

She will be sadly missed by her children; Dana (Tony) Wells of Lewis Center, Ohio, Daniel Pershing of Strasburg, and Darla (James) Fickle of Westerville; grandchildren, Amanda (Matt) Pollock of Sunbury, Ashley Wells of Lewis Center, James Fickle and Daniel Fickle both of Westerville; great-grandson, Owen Pollock of Sunbury; her sister, Anna Wise of New Philadelphia; brother-in-law, Jim Fondriest of Dover; along with her sister-in-law, Myra (Jerry) Deuker of Tuscarawas.

A private family service will be held through the care of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes & Crematory in Dover. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no public services or calling hours. To sign an online guestbook for Mary Ann, visit the obituary link on the funeral home’s website.
