Mary I. (Daniels) Gummere, 92, a lifelong resident of Dover died Thursday, February 8, 2007 in the New Dawn Health Care Center following a brief illness.
Born April 25, 1914 in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Jack W. and Amanda (Swinderman) Daniels. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harold Gummere who died March 15, 1968 along with two sisters and four brothers, twins Edith Garner and Donald Daniels, Dorothy Lechner, Bill, Jack and Tom Daniels and her longtime companion, Chet Long.
Mary was a retired employee of the former Godfrey Electric Company in Dover. She had also previously worked for Lechner Hardware Co. in Mineral City, Sales Department Store, Shenango Penn Mold during World War II and the Dover Appliance (Sadiron).
She was a member of the First Moravian Church in Dover and the former South Moravian Church where she had served as Secretary. She was an avid golfer, bridge player, and bowler where she was secretary of her bowling league. She was a 1934 graduate of Dover High School. She enjoyed exercising at the Strasburg Fitness Center with her many friends.
Mary is survived by three stepchildren, Joan Gummere (Dick) Hayward of New Philadelphia, Bob F. (Paula) Gummere of Hilton Head, South Carolina and Richard (Judy) Gummere of Dover; She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson along with many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service celebrating Mary�(TM)s life will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 11:30 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Rev. Allen Bergmann officiating. A reception will follow in the First Moravian Church fellowship hall. Private interment will be held at the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:30am to 11:30 am.
