Mary Elizabeth Barr, 95, of Dover passed peacefully in her home on Tuesday evening, July 28, 2009 lovingly surrounded by her family.
Born May 28, 1914 in West Lafayette, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Jesse H. and Carrie M. (Beall) Richmond.
Elizabeth was a Registered Nurse for 43 years and served as a Public Health Nurse at the Tuscarawas County Department of Health for seventeen years.
She was an active member the Grace Lutheran Church in Dover and its Mary Baer Circle. She was previously active in the PERS where she attended many local PERS meetings.
She was proud to have served in the US Army Nursing Corp. during World War II.
She was a 1932 graduate of Newcomerstown High School and a 1935 graduate of the Massillon City Hospital School of Nursing.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Eugene A. Barr who died September 30, 1977.
She is survived by two daughters Karen (husband, Chess) Lamb of New Philadelphia and Pam (husband, Ron) Hancharik of Charlotte, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Brande Lamb (Brandi Mackenzie) of Asheville, North Carolina, B.J. Lamb of New Philadelphia, and Brooke Lamb (Kyle Sundheimer) of New Philadelphia along with several nieces and nephews. She was an inspiration to many and played an integral part in each of her family�(TM)s lives.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Jean Taylor, Lois Egler, and Frances Davis and a brother, Jesse Richmond.
A funeral service celebrating Mary Elizabeth�(TM)s life will be held Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 11:30am in the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover with Pastor Jim Lewis officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park with a reception to follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10am �" 11:30 am.
