Mary Kathryn “Katie” Bazzoli, 74, of Dover, Ohio died peacefully in Union Hospital Friday, August 2, 2002.
Katie taught organ, piano, and voice lessons for many years. She was the music coordinator and principal organist at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover. The church recently recognized her for over 50 years of service to her church. She became church organist following her father, Carl Brisgal who was the church organist for forty years.
Born April 20, 1928 in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Rose Smith Brisgal.
In addition to her active involvement in the music program of the church, she also formerly served on the Liturgy Committee.
She was a 1946 graduate of St. Joseph High School. She attended Julliard at New York City and then studied for four years at the Manhattan School of Music where she majored in piano and obtained a Bachelor Degree in music. She studied privately with Richmond Gale, who was accompanist for John Charles Thomas, a renowned tenor opera singer. She was also a member of the McDowell Study Club and was a Cleveland Indians and Browns fan.
Katie was preceded in death by her first husband, Bob Hamma who died July 10, 1973 and her second husband, Edward Bazzoli who died April 17, 1984. She was also preceded by a daughter, Patricia Kay Hamma and a sister, Margaret Ann Henderson.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters; Robert (Dale) Hamma of Dover; Richard “Rick” Hamma of Dover; Mike (Gabriel) Hamma of El Paso, Texas; Mary Jo Hamma of Dover; and Laurie (Lorin) Kinsey of Gnadenhutten; Seven grandchildren: Nicole, Erica, Ashley, William, and Jacob Hamma, Broc Kinsey, and Justin Laughlin; Two sisters: Helen Rybarczyk of Dover and Betty Drago of New York along with many nieces and nephews.
A Rite of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at 10:30 am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. William Arnold officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover. Friends may call at the church on Monday, anytime after 2 pm with the family present from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A Christian Wake Service will be held Monday at 8:30 pm.
