Mary L. Hinkel, 92, of Dover, died Sunday, June 6, 2004.
She retired from Union Hospital in 1976 where she had worked in the housekeeping department.
Born August 11, 1911 at North Canton, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Grace Schario Floom.
Mary was a graduate of North Canton High School. She was a longtime member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and had been active in many of its ministries such as the Christian Mothers, Over 55 Club and 3rd Order of St. Francis. She enjoyed walking and for many years was a participant in the annual Crop Walk �" walking even as she was in her eighties.
Perhaps Mary will most fondly be remembered for her green thumb. As an avid gardener, each year her prize crop of Raspberries was in such demand that often times they would be purchased before they could even be stocked on the grocery store shelves.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Louis W. Hinkel, who died July 2, 1988.
Suvivors include: two sons, William (Phyllis) Hinkel of Mentor and Joseph (Virginia) Hinkel of New Phila; four daughters, Norma (Larry) Russ of Dover, June (Dale) Oesterling of Goleta, CA, Ann (Gerry) Mroczkowski of Dover and Teresa (Gary) Miller of New Philadelphia, a sister, Arline Marlowe of Greentown; a brother, Kenneth Floom of North Canton, 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Kenneth Hinkel and five sisters.
A funeral mass celebrating Mary�(TM)s life will be held Thursday, June 10, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. William Arnold officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Massillon. Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
