Mary Lee Tate, 96, of New Philadelphia, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Jul. 30, 2003.
Born May 17, 1907, in Roanoke, AL, she was a daughter of the late Lee and Ada Parker Burden. She was reared by her grandparents, Tom and Mary Parker. Mary moved to Tuscarawas County at the age of thirteen. She married William Tate on Jun. 9, 1923. The couple raised three children and shared many happy years together until William�(TM)s death in 1956.
Mary was a loving homemaker who enjoyed gardening, quilting and garage sales. She was an eighty-year member of the First Baptist Church, Dover, and the Missionary Society of the church of which she served as president for twenty-seven years. Mary also helped coordinate church dinners, and was a member of Church Women United.
Survivors include seven grandchildren, Stanley, Larry, Karen, William “Tim,” Gail and Debbie Tate, and Keith Maskey; fifteen great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Evangeline Pryor; sister-in-law, Doris Burden.
In addition to her parents, and her husband, she was preceded in death by her three children, Dorothy Tate, Clarence and James “Bo Jack” Tate; a granddaughter, Patricia Tate Fulp; two brothers, James and Amos “Jack” Burden.
A celebration of Mary�(TM)s life will be held Monday, Aug. 4, at 12 p.m., in the First Baptist Church, Dover, with Rev. Christopher Lowery officiating. The procession will form at the church. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. There will be a meal in the church following the committal. Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 3, 6-8 p.m., in the church.
