Mary Lou Spinell, age 87, of Dover, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015, in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia, surrounded by her loving family.
Born September 28, 1927, in her family's home on Red Hill Rd. at Dover, she was a daughter of the late John and Julia (Borga) Bonisolli. Mary Lou graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1945, and went on to further her education at Kent State University and the University of Cincinnati, ultimately earning her Registered Nurse credentials from Massillon City Hospital School of Nursing. Most of her forty-six-year career was spent in a supervisory role at Union Hospital, Dover, and Twin City Hospital, Dennison. Mary Lou's patients' needs and comfort were always a priority, as well as those of their families.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church at Dover, its senior citizens' group, the Order of Secular Franciscans, Christian Mothers, L.C.B.A., Loyola Study Club, and served on the St. Joseph Hospitality and Bereavement Committees.
Mary Lou took a keen interest in her children's and grandchildren's school and athletic activities from the elementary level through college. She was especially fond of sports, and followed Dover High School, college and the Cleveland professional teams. Mary Lou also enjoyed travel, having visited nearly every state in the union as well as her family's ancestral home in the Tyrol region of Austria. Additionally, she liked gardening and working outside her home and was an excellent seamstress, creating anything from costumes to prom gowns and wedding dresses.
Survivors include her husband of sixty years, Robert P. "Bob" Spinell, to whom she was wed on May 22, 1954, in St. Joseph Church; her daughters, Julie Spinell of Dover (Parral), and Denise (husband, Ralph) Baumberger of Dennison; her sons, Steve (wife, Rosemary) Spinell of Akron, and Greg Spinell of Uhrichsville; her grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Jordynne, Cory, Alexa and Valari; her great-grandson, Ryker; her sister, Joanne (husband, Andrew) Penso of Dennison; her sister-in-law, Angie Depanicis of Phoenix, Arizona; and her many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Saturday, January 24, 9 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Fr. Jimmy Hatfield, will follow at 12 noon in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Dover's St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery.
