Mary Wright, 79, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010, in Aultman Hospital, Canton, after an apparent heart attack on Sunday.
Born February 11, 1931, in Detroit, MI, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Florence Bonsignor Angelo. Mary graduated from St. Mary's High School in Dennison, and, on June 5, 1953, married Clifford S. "Cliff" Wright in Fort Wayne, IN. The couple owned and operated the A & W Root Beer stand in Newcomerstown in the late 1950's and early 60's. Later, Mary managed the family's rental property business and became an International Union carpenter.
Mary belonged to St. Paul's Church in Midvale until it was closed, and then became a member of Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia. She was faithful supporter of the March of Dimes and St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis. Mary was a voracious reader of novels. She found special joy in caring for her grandchildren, following their lives and attending their various school and sporting events.
Survivors include her husband, Cliff; a daughter, M. Susan (David) May of New Philadelphia; two sons, Richard Mark Wright of Lansdowne, VA, and Timothy T. Wright of Clarksville, OH; three grandchildren, Megan, Gina and Ashley Edwards; three step-grandchildren, David, Matthew and Rebecca May; a great-granddaughter, Lily Maria Beachy; two sisters, Frances Yacavino of Pittsburgh, PA, and Jenny Williamson of Fayetteville, NC; two brothers, Frank Angelo of New Philadelphia, and Pete (Marian) Angelo of Strasburg; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Angelo of Massillon; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Jay Angelo.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, on Friday, February 26, 6 8 p.m. A Christian wake service will open the calling hours at 6. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 27, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Msgr. George J. Schlegel officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia.
