Matthew R. Compton, 16, of Dover died Friday, May 4, 2007 from injuries sustained in an auto accident near his home.

Also known as MC Hammer by his friends, Matt was a sophomore at Dover High School where he played football and baseball and was a volunteer in the guidance office at the school. He was also a member of Interact.

Born January 23, 1991 in Canton, Matt is the son of Ed and Becky (Gross) Compton. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Kyle, a student at Miami University and his sister, Danielle, a 7th grader at Dover Middle School. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Neil and Ellen Compton of Port Washington; his maternal grandmother, Pauline Gross of Coshocton; aunts and uncles, Terry (Dana) Kittell of Coshocton, Gary (Kay) Compton of New Philadelphia, Larry (Deb) Compton of Sugarcreek, Jud (Dawna) Compton of Dover, Vickie (Ben) Crawford of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Paula (Tom) Seward of Coshocton along with many cousins.

Matt was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John “Deacon” Gross whom he loved and admired and wore #19 in sports to honor him.

Matt was a member of the First Moravian Church in Dover where he was a Youth Bible School leader and active in Youth Fellowship. He loved snowboarding and playing his guitar and was known for his Michael Jackson dance. He especially enjoyed hanging out with his friends playing “Guitar Hero”.

A celebration of Matt�(TM)s life will be held Monday, May 7, 2007 at 1pm in the First Moravian Church at Dover with Pastor Allen Bergmann officiating. Cremation will follow services and a private graveside service will be held at a later date in the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the First Moravian Church, 319 N. Walnut St., Dover on Sunday (today) from 4-8pm.
